The Fellowship Commission

The Fellowship Commission provides many opportunities for Social Interaction.  Many of these activities are Advent Traditions.

Get involved! Volunteers can email fellowship@church-of-the-advent.com.

Easter Brunch

The Easter Sunday Brunch generally starts after the 8:00 a.m. service and runs till after the start of the 11 a.m. service.  Many volunteers make this a wonderful way to enjoy Easter with your church family.  This casual buffet brunch style provides a flexible time format that everyone can enjoy.

Salt Shaker/Sugar and Spice Dinners

MEET NEW PEOPLE AND MAKE NEW FRIENDS at Advent's Salt Shaker dinners.  If you are thinking about joining Advent, have just recently joined, or if you are an established member... THIS IS FOR YOUHere's how it works: Four or five couples and singles join together to share FOOD, FUN, AND FELLOWSHIP on weekend night.  After everyone has signed up, the names are mixed up then assigned to a Host house.  You never know where you will end up and who you will connect with, but the fun and fellowship are always memorable! One couple or single is the "Host" who provides the main course and beverages at their home.  The other guests bring salad/bread, vegetable, appetizer, or dessert depending on what they are assigned.  The Host  contacts everyone before the dinner to make assignments, set a time and give directions.

Sugar and Spice Dinners--same idea, but with the kids along!  No need to hire babysitters!  Please note:  you do not need to have children in order to attend this event--everyone--young and old is welcome!

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper

Lent begins at Advent with the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper.  This Fellowship event is a wonderful way to bring families together.

Lenten Suppers

Lenten Suppers, in the Advent tradition, start with the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper.  For the remainder of Lent we gather every Wednesday evening for a potluck dinner.  Dinner is then followed by a speaker on his or her life journey with Christ or a theatrical presentation focusing on a Lenten theme.  The evening ends with an informal Eucharist.

The coffee, tea & cold beverageswill be provided. Please bring an entree, salad, side or dessert to share.During the program there be childcare for babies in the nursery, and children up through 4th grade go to St. Jude room for a movie. 5th grade and up remain in the parish hall for the program and worship. Younger children will return to the parish hall for the 7:15 worship service.

Seder Meal

The annual Lamb Seder Meal is an educational, formal meal rich in religious symbolism. The Seder Meal is for adults and children age 13 and up. There will be childcare for younger family members.

Potluck Chili Dinner

The Pot Luck Chili Dinner was reintroduced to the Fellowship schedule.  This dinner is usually in December following the winter choir concert.  It is a parish favorite that has many of our cooks involved in preparing many different types of chili.

The Spaghetti Dinner

The Annual Spaghetti Dinner is a beloved tradition at the church.  Many volunteer to cook and decorate the parish hall.  Checkered table clothes and candlelight add a to this event.  It is a wonderful gathering of Advent friends and family.

Special Receptions

Coffee Hour special receptions such as after confirmation or on youth Sunday are also part of this commissions work.

Coffee/Ice tea Hour

On Sundays when we do not have an Adult Forum scheduled, members of the parish relax and enjoy fellowship together outside in the Summer for Ice Tea or in the Parish Hall for Coffee Hour during cooler weather.
