Altar Flower Distribution

Every Sunday, flowers from the altar are taken to those who are sick or shut-in, who may be celebrating birthdays or anniversaries or in whose life, something significant has happened. Eight volunteers support the ministry of the Altar Guild by delivering the flowers from Sunday services to members of the parish or friends in the community. This ministry also provides personal contacts and expressions of care to those who are ill or shut-in.

Card Ministry

This committee mails cards in honor of special birthdays, anniversaries, baptisms, and on occasions where prayers of comfort, encouragement, or sympathy would be appreciated.  Thank you, Suzanne Pusey and Barbara Thornton, for providing words of comfort, congratulations, well wishes, or sympathy to our parishioners.

Casserole Bank

This active ministry provides meals to parish families during times of need.  Fresh or frozen meals are delivered to those recovering from surgery, welcoming new babies, mourning the loss of family members, or having ongoing needs for assistance in the kitchen.  With the construction of a new parish hall kitchen, a new freezer has recently been acquired.  Plans are to re-stock the freezer with a few "emergency" meals and soups.  Thank you to these parish "chefs" who are contributing to this caring ministry.

Lay Eucharistic Ministers

We seek to maintain the connection between this faith community and those who are apart from us by virtue of sickness or circumstance. Each Sunday, we send forth specially trained lay persons who take the already consecrated sacrament to the homes of ill or shut-ins. Requests for an LEM may be made through the church office.

Four individuals, who have undergone special diocesan training, take the blessed bread and wine from the Sunday altar to those who are hospitalized, ill, or shut-in.  Thank you, Jan Kirk, Lee Stack, Ray Cumbaa, and Leslie Tinnin for serving our parish in this ministry.

Prayer Circle

This caring group of sixteen individuals prays for those in our parish who are in crisis.  Sandy Cumbaa and June Sitko confidentially notify the group members when a need arises.  Thank you to this committee for your dedication and concern for our parish family.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

Our Prayer Shawl Ministry knits shawls for those who are suffering and wish to be wrapped in God's love.   New knitters and non-knitters are always welcome (we have great teachers and moral support - as Kathy & Ann in the church office can attest to)! If you would like to join us , call the church office and let us know. If you need a shawl, God will send one!

Parish Nursing

This is our newest committee and is just getting underway.  One of our goals is to create a cooperative ministry between clergy and nurses in the parishes so that when a family needs support, the parish nurse can assist.  The educational aspect of this ministry will involve the promotion of self-knowledge, personal responsibility and wellness in spiritual, physical, emotional and relational terms.  A third direction we hope to take is to reflect both the needs and the resources of our congregation into the larger Kennett community.  We are most interested in welcoming nurses who have participated in this kind of program in other parishes.

Senior Ministry

The purpose of this committee is to develop and implement activities that involve ministry to, for, with and by senior parishioners.  To this end we have a "History and Archive" group which is available to do tours and special presentations on the history of the parish and which collects and archives memorabilia from our special events.  We take trips to different places and have gatherings for different purposes.

Special Friends

Under the direction of clergy, lay persons are sent out as "Special Friends" to those living alone or to elderly who may be cut off from very much social contact.  The object of being a "Special Friend" is just to check in with the person to who one is assigned, to remember his or her birthday, to advise the clergy of special events in this person's life, to share a cup of tea occasionally, in short, to just be able to be introduced as "My Special Friend."

Walking the Mourners Path

With the guidance of two trained facilitators and a member of the clergy, our goal is to help those who have faced the death of a loved one to be able to transform their grief into joyful living.  Participants are encouraged to find a new relationship with their loved one through Jesus Christ by inviting Him into the pain and asking our Lord to comfort and heal them.
